“Old Oak Ridge”
Experience the heart, harmony, and high-energy of the South in "Old Oak Ridge," a soulful new musical comedy where small-town secrets and big-city ambitions collide under the branches of a sacred 500-year-old tree. When a sensationalist news crew arrives to cover the town's historic festival, they expect a simple story, but instead find a community bound by generations of love, ambition, and a legacy worth fighting for. Filled with wit, Southern sass, and a foot-stomping score inspired by the golden age of rock and roll, this production is a moving—and hilarious—tribute to the "angels" in our lives and the deep roots that keep us grounded even when the "city-slickers" try to shake the branches.
Lead Characters
*Southern accents are not required for all roles, but would be helpful to hear if you have one!
Scout Cameron (Female, 35): A tomboy photojournalist and camera operator. She is a truth-seeker with a secret personal agenda and isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty.
Charles “Chuck” Sterling (Male, 25-35): A charming and vain field reporter from Charleston. He is success-driven and the "face" of the news team, often calling the shots and looking for a "stirring" story.
Jackson Reed (Male, 25-35): A struggling painter posing as an audio engineer. An intellectual who lacks inspiration, he is hoping this job provides clarity on his own life.
Daisy Dawson (Female, 20-23): The town "sweetheart." A college junior studying business (which she hates) who returns home for answers. Beautiful, approachable, and intelligent, but feels the pressure of the town’s high expectations.
Virginia “Ginny” Dawson (Female, 45-55, SOUTHERN ACCENT): Daisy’s mother and owner of the town diner. Quick-witted, nurturing, and a massive presence in the community who loves to "know everything".
Babs Franklin (Female, 30-50, SOUTHERN ACCENT): The energetic town librarian and self-appointed journalist. She is the town’s primary "meddler" and news-spreader.
Supporting Characters
Grandpa Hank Dawson (Male, 70s+, SOUTHERN ACCENT): An outwardly gruff, intimidating widower who carries grief and secrets of the past. He adores Daisy and fiercely protects his land.
Sheriff Carter (Female, 35-50s): The newly appointed, eager to prove herself, very awkward, and very lovable deadpan sheriff.
Bobby Blake (Male, 23-26, SOUTHERN ACCENT): The town's "jack-of-all-trades" (hardware store owner, police volunteer, diner worker). He has had a crush on Daisy since high school.
Evelyn “Evie” Green (Female, 20-23): Library intern for her Aunt Babs, self-proclaimed environmentalist, overseer of the high school's “Green Committee”, and Daisy's best friend.
Mayor Walker (M/F, 60s+): The confident, polite leader of the town who remembers everyone’s name, and just wants the town to be successful.
Pastor Mary-Grace Harper (Female, 40s-50s): The moral and spiritual voice of the community.
Supporting Teens
Junie B Carter (Female, 13-16): The sheriff’s daughter. Sarcastic, clever, and an aspiring private investigator.
Bradley Walker (Male, 14-17): The Mayor’s grandson and Junie B's best friend. Goofy, kind, and a little bit of a pushover.
Sally Mae / Sawyer Green (M/F, 13-17): Evie’s humorous younger sibling. Always making people laugh when things get serious or boring.
Betsy Ann Harper (Female, 15-18): The pastor's bubbly, spotlight-loving daughter, hoping to be the Sock Hop MVB (most valuable bopper). She carries a lot of the same wisdom and kindness as her mother.
Ruth Parker (Female, 13-18): A shy, talented singer finding her voice.
Ensemble (M/F, 13-80) : Additional townsfolk
